Its mountainous interior and the action of the famous Azores high means that the island has a dry climate in the south and heavy rainfall in the north, maintaining a tropical climate where water flows everywhere. So much so that a complex system of irrigation channels was built to divert water from the north to the south area. These channels are called levadas and although today they are not necessary to supply water to the population, they remain a major tourist attraction since they traverse every corner of the island and are those we will use to access the heads of our desired ravines.
The island of Madeira rises on a mountain of lava and basalt over the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. A tiny dot in the ocean but full of diversity and beauty.
